The news item that the Jets have decided to possibly hold training camp outside of their new digs in Florham Park has caused quite the ruckus. People are not pleased with the Jets’ plans to suddenly spurn their Jersey digs for an out-of-state locale as is rumored to be preferred by new head man Rex Ryan.

So here’s a quick breakdown of how things stand a day after news broke..

• E-Bola breaks the news that Ryan’s minions have been scouting locations like a Valley director. Their first visits includde Cornell University and SUNY Cortland.
• Jane McManus does a little digging and finds that Florham Park is preparing as if the Jets will be home for the Summer.
• Meanwhile, Paul Needel, Hutch’s Star-Ledger associate, says that Woody and Co. are “flipping the bird” to their New Jersey faithful less than a year after leaving Long Island fans cold and lonely.

Is it lonely up there on your pedestal, Paul? Needel needs to take a chill pill. This is hardly a slap in the face to Jersey fans. The Jets have been in the minority holding training camp at their own facilities for years past. Most NFL teams these days venture out to a different localefor training camp only to return for the final weeks of preseason.

Ryan is an “old school coach” having been raised under his father, Buddy, and wants the Jets to have the bonding experience of being away from their homes and family and everyday lives. Here’s a question, how come Needel doesn’t rip on the Giants for not practicing in their soon-to-finished digs outside of Giants stadium? They charge PSLs. They practice four hours away. They have a brand new facility. Jeez, move on.
